Manthos Potiris from Serifos speaks on the program “Fair Winds and Following Seas“, on Voice of Greece.
With more than 30 years of sea service in coastal shipping and ocean-going vessels, and 10 years dedicated to the training and professional development of fellow seafarers through the specialised programmes of KESEN, Master Potiris shares a lifetime shaped by the sea.
“The sea is the love of my life. I grew up on my beloved Serifos, between the blue sky and the sea, and it drew me close to it. I served it and worked with it for more than thirty years. If I were born again, I would once again become a seafarer and an engineer,” he says.
Reflecting on his relationship with fellow seafarers, he stresses that everyone aboard has their own value and importance —
from the captain and the sailor to the engineer and the boatswain. “I always maintained excellent and harmonious relationships with my crews, and later with my colleagues and students at KESEN.”
