The Director of Studies of the Merchant Marine Academy (AEN) of Syros, Mr. Giorgos Dounavis, takes the helm of the show “Fair Winds & Following Seas.”
He talks about the new academic year that begins in a few days across all Merchant Marine Academies in Greece.
This year, the Syros Academy has full teaching staff—two permanent instructors and seven scientific associates—while the student body numbers 176, with 10% being female cadets.
On the choice of pursuing a maritime profession, Mr. Dounavis says:
“Shipping and its professions are an excellent choice for our young people. Shipping in Greece will never die. It has so much to offer: knowledge, experience, income, and career prospects. They should not fear the sea, as everything has improved and conditions today are far better compared to the past. Young people will only gain from this path. They just need to believe in it and follow it with dedication.”
