On 25 October—still feeling the absence left by the passing of Dionysis Savvopoulos—we celebrate the birthday of one of his distinguished contemporaries. With his unmistakable personal style, original melodies, and powerful interpretive presence, Thanasis Gaifyllias made a significant contribution to the emergence and consolidation of the singer-songwriter tradition in Greek music.
Standing at the crossroads of entechno and rock, Gaifyllias is “responsible” for some of the most striking moments in modern Greek song—from the historic “Ekdromi” to the robust “Komotini,” and from the evocative “The Days Pass in the Dark” to the travel-infused “Stavento.”
Especially for listeners of Voice of Greece and Greek Music Express – “Musical Suburbs”, the beloved songwriter has entrusted us with two previously unreleased songs, which will be heard in their radio premiere.
