Nilufer is one of the most prominent performers in the history of Turkish pop. After winning prestigious competitions as a pupil, she recorded her first album at the age of just 17. With her expressive and sensual performances, Nilufer dominated the pop scene of the 1970s and the 1980s. Today, we conclude our week-long tribute to Turkish folk (and to its multiple Greek connections) by enjoying the amazing hits of super star Nilufer, plus popular songs by other vocalists originally created by Greek composers. Fusun Onal sings a Manos Hadjidakis classic, Sibel Egemen reminds us of a popular Dimos Moutsis tune, Seda Sayan revisits a Thanos Mikroutsikos masterpiece, and Nilufer becomes the vehicle for multiple Turkish-Greek encounters.
