Historical Walks: The True Meaning of Christmas  (Part III) | 03 Jan. 2026

The episode is dedicated to Christmas as a celebration of peace, in a world tested by wars, conflicts, and deep divisions. At its core are reflections on the role of the Church in the contemporary world, the significance of the recent meeting between Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Leo XIV, as well as the historical trajectory of relations between Orthodoxy and Catholicism—from the Great Schism to the present day. At the same time, the discussion explores both the expectations and the limitations of contemporary inter-Christian dialogue.

Our companion in this journey is Grigorios Papathomas, Metropolitan of Peristeri, a hierarch of distinguished theological and academic standing. He studied Theology and Law in Athens and pursued postgraduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral studies in Paris, with a long academic presence in Greece and abroad. His discourse is marked by a reflective and contemporary approach, bridging theology with culture, history, and the existential questions of humanity.
