According to Gabriel García Márquez, Pablo Neruda is considered the most important poet of the 20th century. In 1971, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, an event that sparked reactions due to his political activity and communist beliefs. He published a multitude of poetry collections of varying styles, including love poems, works influenced by surrealist principles, and even some that could be regarded as political manifestos.
