Ithaca, forever associated with Odysseus, the longing for home and the return to it, has journeyed from mythology into literature and then into our collective imagination as a symbol of the destination—and of the journey itself.
Beyond the myth, however, lies a real island: small, lush, peaceful, and unmistakably Ionian. There is Vathy, built around one of Greece’s largest natural harbors; picturesque Kioni; Frikes and Stavros; small coves with blue-green waters; trails, villages, and landscapes that seem untouched by time.
In this episode, “On the Road” travels to Ithaca in search of the island behind the universal symbol.
