The Secretary General for the Aegean and Island Policy, Manolis Koutoulakis, speaks on the Voice of Greece program “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on the occasion of this year’s AEGEAN REGATTA 2025, taking place in Lemnos, Agios Efstratios, and Lesvos from 23 to 30 August, with sailing races and many parallel events across the North Aegean islands.
Mr. Koutoulakis explains how, over the years, the Aegean Regatta has managed to support Greece’s border islands, connect sailors from one end of the country to the other, and offer many international crews the chance to experience island culture.
He also notes that beyond everyday issues of island life, cultural and sporting events—such as the Aegean Regatta—play a vital role, and even during the pandemic the race was not interrupted.
“This year we have participants from 8 countries with 64 boats so far, while next year this important race will start, for symbolic reasons, from Volissos in seafaring Chios. In addition, under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Island Policy, the Aegean Games will be held in Chios with more than 600 students, along with the Meeting of Amateur Theatre Groups in Samos,” stresses Mr. Koutoulakis.
