The Mayor of the Heroic Island of Kasos, Michalis Erotokritos, spoke on the show “Fair Winds and Following Seas”, on Voice of Greece.
“I grew up by the sea, in Rhodes and Kasos, and I wanted to become a ship captain—but my parents discouraged me. So I turned to pharmacy, despite my deep love for the sea. Still, the sea continues to inspire and move me, just as it does many of my fellow islanders and the people of Kasos,” he tells us.
He spoke about the recent four-day commemorative events marking the 201st anniversary of the Holocaust of 1824, which were held on the island.
Mr. Erotokritos also referred to the arrival of a new floating ambulance vessel for the Hellenic Coast Guard, which will now be permanently stationed on Kasos. This is a specialized vessel, designed by personnel from the Coast Guard and the National Emergency Center (EKAV), tailored to the specific needs of the region for the safe and immediate transport of patients.
