The Mayor of Nisyros, Christofis Koronaios, takes the helm of the program “Fair Winds & Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
He speaks about the island’s recent inclusion in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, a milestone achieved on 05 September 2025. Nisyros, with its unique natural, cultural, and geological wealth, now proudly joins this prestigious international family.
This remarkable success is the result of a long, coordinated effort by scientific institutions and local authorities.
“This international recognition marks a defining moment for our island. It highlights not only the unique natural and cultural richness of Nisyros but also the significance of the surrounding islets—Pergousa, Pachia, Kondeliousa, and Strongyli—and the sea area that unites them, forming a rare geological mosaic unlike any other in the world. It paves the way for further protection and promotion of our heritage,” notes Mr. Koronaios.
He also guides listeners through the island’s beauty—its thermal springs, landscapes, and the deep bond he feels with his beloved homeland, Nisyros.
