The engineer and experienced sailor from the seafaring island of Kasos, Michalis Ioannou-Roufas, speaks to “Fair Winds & Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
“As soon as I was born and began to understand things, I immediately ran to the sea. The waves of Vlycha and Kofteri reach my doorstep,” Michalis tells us.
About his decision to pursue a career as a sailor he says, “I didn’t want to study. I listened to the stories my father, my uncles, and my relatives narrated, and these experiences led me to the sea. I may have seen the whole world, traveled almost the entire globe, but there is no country like Greece. Nothing has ever moved me as much as Greece and my island, my Kasos. My heart has remained pure, as it was when I was a child, and it belongs to Kasos”.
