“Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for Children of All Ages pays tribute to Oscar Wilde, the Irish storyteller, poet, and playwright and one of the great figures of world literature. The program presents two much-loved stories, translated around the world, from his collection “The Happy Prince and Other Tales.”
The program brings to life two of Wilde’s best-known fairy tales for children and adults: “The Happy Prince,” and “The Selfish Giant.
Both stories belong to the collection “The Happy Prince and Other Tales,” published in London in 1888. Wilde published these stories in the press of the time, soon gaining recognition among readers of all ages.
Through his simple yet powerful prose, the celebrated author explores enduring moral values: love, friendship, altruism, sacrifice, renewal, and hope. Throughout his work, he also offers a critique of social injustice and vanity.
The depth of Wilde’s storytelling and the allegorical meanings of his tales continue to enchant and inspire readers of all ages around the world. “The Happy Prince” and “The Selfish Giant” also remain valuable educational resources for students and teachers worldwide and are still taught today.
