Radio operator Evangelia Andrikopoulou from Kardamyla, Chios, speaks on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
She talks about her experiences during voyages using the ship’s radio and about the importance of communication between crew members and their families — especially during the holiday season.
“There was a whole process and quite a bit of work involved with the SVA and our connection with Athens. Things were not as simple as they are today, but it had its own charm. That was what brought us closer together as a crew — as fellow human beings and friends. Today, from what I hear, communication exists because of technological advances, but there is also greater isolation among many people on ships,” Ms Andrikopoulou tells us.
At the same time, she recounts stories from situations she experienced during her voyages, such as a storm she encountered in Japan and the adventure of trying to board the ship.
