The sailor Nikos Karakostas takes the helm of the program “Fair Winds & Following Seas” on Voice of Greece.
He returns with “Alkmene” from Paros, where together with fellow traveler Nikolas Vlavianos he took part in the “Kapetaneika” festivities.
Mr. Karakostas speaks about this celebration, which has been held on the beautiful Cycladic island for the past seven years. On the importance of the event, he notes: “We want to celebrate, to showcase, but also to preserve these beautiful traditional boats and their history. There are many fine vessels, crafted with artistry and carrying history, and they must continue to sail in our seas. We’re not showing off – we simply want to keep our tradition alive, along with the craftsmanship of these boats. And, of course, we want to bring young people into this wonderful world, to help them love the sea with its fishing boats, its hospitality, humility, and modesty.”
