“Fair Winds and Following Seas – Saturday Watch” broadcasts a special two-hour program from the Heroic Island of Kasos, dedicated to the 17th Panhellenic Small Islands Conference.
This annual nationwide conference brings together mayors and representatives of islands with fewer than 1,000 residents, alongside government representatives, to discuss the issues, challenges, and initiatives affecting these small yet vital communities across Greece.
Discussions at this year’s conference focused on key concerns for small island communities. Particular emphasis was placed on partnerships and cooperation among islands, young people’s right to remain and build a future in their home communities, the development of an effective policy for islands, and the priorities of the European Union’s new program for 2028–2034.
The conference’s slogan, “Nothing about us without us,” underscores the need for local communities to participate actively in decisions affecting their islands, ensuring that policies reflect their actual needs.
