Second Officer Captain Stylianos Koutsodontis, hailing from Aegina and Syros, joined us on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece for a heartfelt conversation about life at sea.
“My whole life, since I was a child, has revolved around the sea—swimming, boats, fishing, and the stories of older sailors in our family. We come from a seafaring tradition. That’s what led me to choose this path,” he shares. “I started as a cadet and later attended the prestigious Maritime Academy of Hydra, just like my grandfather.”
Captain Koutsodontis recalls his first assignment on the passenger vessel M/V EXPRESS PEGASUS: “One afternoon, standing at the stern and gazing at the horizon, I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life—to be a captain.”
One of the most moving moments of his career so far was sailing through the Bosphorus and seeing the Hagia Sophia rise in the distance “It was deeply emotional. A memory I will carry with me always.”
