Understanding the Present, Charting the Future: Sotiris Bahtsetzis on “Historical Walks” (Part II) | 21 Mar. 2026

In these sombre times we are living through, “Historical Walks” aspires to open a small window of hope, fostering the belief that a better future is possible. The program welcomes Sotiris Bakhtsetzis, Associate Professor of Theory of Contemporary Art and Curatorial Practices at the University of Thessaly.

On the occasion of his recent book “Chrono-Politics and Topo-Economies: Understanding the Present, Charting the Future,” we attempt to approach and interpret the complex world we live in, while also discussing possible alternative perspectives on contemporary social issues.

The discussion focuses on how the major challenges of our time—social inequalities, the environmental crisis, and the transformations brought about by digital technology—are connected to the way we perceive time and place.

In the second part, we turn to “topo-economies,” exploring how the conditions of a place shape people’s opportunities and inequalities, as well as how new challenges emerge in an ever-changing world.

We also reflect on the role of art: how it can help us not only understand the world around us, but also imagine the future differently.

The program is complemented by works of classical music and film soundtracks, selected by the guest.
