Born in April 1960, Giorgos – Ikaros Bampasakis is a poet, translator, and author. He collaborated with the newspaper Ελευθεροτυπία for ten years and contributed the Βιβλίου column to the free press Lifo and City Press.
He currently writes the Σάκος Εκστρατείας του Επίμονου Αναγνώστη column in Book Press and maintains ongoing collaborations with the magazines Χάρτης and Φρέαρ. He has also worked in Greek radio, including Δεύτερο Πρόγραμμα, ERA 4, Εν Λευκώ, Στο Κόκκινο, Κανάλι 1, and 24/7.
He founded and directed the magazine Propaganda and the initiative Κορέκτ, where important writings on politics and culture were published. He was shortlisted for the 2018 State Translation Prize for his translations of George Saunders’ Λήθη και Λίνκολν (ed. Ίκαρος).
He was also in the Shortlist for the 2021 State Testimony Prize for his book Η Κοκό στην Κοπεγχάγη (ed. Νήσος). He lives and works in Athens.
