Stories of people from all over Greece: of their hometowns, stories of love, stories that changed Greece or defined it, modern or old stories. Stories that are not recorded in the history books and that could easily be lost in time.
This week’s episodes you shouldn’t miss:
Monday 21 August: ”A radio pirate from Tinos island”
In the 70’s, in the village Pyrgos of Tinos island, a sculpture student opens the “pirate” amateur radio station “Unknown X”. How many different music genres can possibly fit into a single music show? How can song dedications to people over the radio lead to fights and breakups? And how unknown was “Unknown X” on the island after all?
Wednesday 23 August: ”The Germans saved our village”
During the Occupation, Bulgarian troops approach Paleokastro, Serres. Then a woman draws out a plan.
Friday 25 August: ”Karagiozis will never grow old”
Who is Karagiozis after all? Sokratis Kotsores, Karagiozis puppeteer, analyzes, with a sense of humor and a love of his art, the multiple personalities and readings of Karagiozis, who are still alive to this day.
On Sundays, istorima has two new episodes coming in – one in Greek (with Greek Audio) and one in English (with English Voiceover)
This Sunday 27 August:
‘‘A sea of wreckage” [Greek Audio]
One spring afternoon of 1954, a group of boys from Sofades, Karditsa are walking through a meadow, when a great earthquake lets them witness an unprecedented sight of nature. It was the earthquake of Sofades that left behind 25 dead, hundreds injured and 6500 damaged buildings.
”Tolkien: New myths from old?” [English Voiceover]
Tolkien wanted to create a mythology for the British ‘like that of the Greeks’. Was Galadriel, the queen of elves, inspired by Circe and Calypso? Bilbo by Odysseus? What do Ajax and Boromir have in common, and what is the link between the fate of Atlantis and the fall of Numenor?
Monday – Friday new episodes are available from 21.00, while Sunday’s first episode in Greek is available at 11.00 and the second one (in English) is available at 17.00. (Athens time)
You can find the episodes on both ERTecho radio plarform and on the Voice of Greece website and app, under the Podcasts category.
