Voice of Greece celebrates Epiphany with a special program | 06.01.2024

“Voice of Greece”, on Saturday, January 6th, 2014, celebrates Epiphany with a special program that will mentally transport listeners – Greeks around the world – to their homelands. From early in the morning until late at night, the “Voice of Greece” broadcasts tribute shows with carols, customs and traditions even from the most remote areas of Greece, traditional, folk music and songs about the light.

The morning begins with Epiphany carols from all over Greece prepared by Maria Koutsimpiri on the show “The Elves of Tradition” (06:00 – 08:00 Greek time), followed immediately by the liturgy of the Epiphany, the blessing of the waters and the diving to recover the Holy Cross from the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Piraeus (08:00 – 12:00 Greek time). Ragoutsaria, “Fotokoliva”, “Giala – Giala”, “Camel and the Bride”, “candles in the water”, “Marmarites”, “Sagia” and other customs with ancient roots are revived along with unique songs by Antonis Karagiannakis in the two-hour show “Fair Winds and Following Seas – Weekend Shift” (12:00 – 14:00 Greek time). Thanasis Houpis takes us along the islands of the barren coastal line of our country and to picturesque communities of Cyprus in the show “Hellenes everywhere” (14:00 – 15:00 Greek time) and Giannis Papoutsakis in the show “Journeys Basking in Greek Light” keeps us company with a two-hour musical “live” program with songs about the Light (15:00 – 17:00 Greek time). Themis Rodamitis makes a special journey on the show “Our Town” talking with our compatriots from Palamas, Karditsa and Lixouri, Kefalonia, to Lake Evias and Karitsa, Ioannina (17:00 – 18:00 Greek time). Finally, the ERT1 show “Hold the Night” makes a stop at “Voice of Greece” with a two-hour festive music show (21:00 – 23:00 Greek time) for Greeks around the world.
