NKUA History Professor/author Giorgos N. Leontsinis on “Saturday Shift” | 27 Apr. 2024, 08:00 am

On Saturday, April 27th, 2024, at 08:00 am (Athens time) “Fair Winds and Following Seas – Saturday Shift” with Antonis Karagiannakis and VOICE OF GREECE will host Giorgos N. Leontsinis, Professor Emeritus of Modern Greek and European History and History Education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and author, originally from Kythira.

His latest project is the book “The shipwreck of the “Mentor” on the shores of Kythira and the rescue of the Parthenon Sculptures. Mr. Leontsinis talks in detail about this subject, mentioning people, things, documents, documents and testimonies of that time when the shipwreck took place with the Elgin marbles open in Avlemonas, on September 5th, 1802.

Mr. Leontsinis highlights initiatives and decisions that were discovered for the removal from the bottom of the sea of Kythira of the Parthenon marbles that Lord Elgin had removed, what happened, what happened and what was their course afterwards.


The show ”Fair Winds and Following Seas” with Antonis Karagiannakis is dedicated to Greek seafarers, featuring stories of their day-to-day lives, live testimonies, and connections with Greek ocean liners sailing across the world’s oceans.
