Bouzouki instrumentals – this is the theme of our week-long tribute that starts today. And our starting point is the crème-de-la-crème of bouzouki soloists: Giannis Papaioannou, Markos Vamvakaris, Manolis Hiotis, Vasilis Tsitsanis, Giorgos Zambetas, Giorgos Mitsakis, Dimitris Stergiou, Costas Papadopoulos, Lakis Karnezis, among others. Our selection comes from two 1985 collections of bouzouki instrumentals released by Columbia, one of the country’s biggest recording companies. The Musical Treasure of Columbia is the title of the series in which these albums belong, and yes, this is precisely what they are: a treasure of history, melody and bouzouki craftmanship from some of Greece’s top virtuosos.
