On Sunday, August 4, 2024, the show “Greeks Around the World – Greece in Denmark” with Elina Stamatatou featured actor/director Vasilis Vasilakis, who is visiting Copenhagen for the second time to present a play by Nikos Kazantzakis.
Vasilis Vasilakis graduated with honors from the Drama School of Theatro Technis Karolos Koun. Vasilakis worked at Theatro Technis from 1978 to 1985, performing in numerous productions of ancient and contemporary drama in Greece and at international festivals. In cinema, he has collaborated with director Pantelis Voulgaris on films such as “Stone Years” and “Little England.” He studied sculpture and puppet-making in David Kennedy’s workshop and painting under G. Moralis. In 1997, he founded the Marionette Theater and has since produced and directed performances—mainly for children—writing the scripts, designing, and directing himself. In Aegina, he created the theater group Ormiskos, which he also directs. This is not his first time working with the works of Nikos Kazantzakis, as he has directed productions of “The Word” and “Captain Michalis” by the esteemed author in major theaters in Athens.
* Elina Stamatatou wishes to thank Art Bar and Ilias Kavvounis for hosting the interview.
