Historical Walks: PASOK under Andreas and the Crisis | 05 Oct. 2024, 13:00

In light of the upcoming elections for PASOK’s new leader, “Historical Walks” takes us back to the 1980s, when Andreas Papandreou’s PASOK dominated Greece’s political landscape.

Political scientist and strategic communications advisor, Ilias Tsaousakis, reflects on the governments led by PASOK, with a focus on the charismatic leadership of Andreas Papandreou. He discusses the political messaging of the era and the radical reforms introduced during Papandreou’s first term, which reshaped Greece’s social and economic framework.

Tsaousakis also delves into the party’s decline during the financial crisis, a phenomenon documented in international literature as Pasokification. He concludes with a discussion on the challenges the new leader will face in restoring PASOK to a governing party.
