The educator, author, and historian Kostas Antypas on “Saturday Shift” | 05 Oct. 2024, 08:00

The educator, author, and historian Kostas Antypas will be the guest on “Saturday Shift”, the Saturday special edition of Antonis Karagiannakis‘ show “Fair Winds and Following Seas” on Voice of Greece, this Saturday, October 5, at 08:00 a.m. Athens time.

“The journey at sea has been a dangerous undertaking since ancient times. The apprenticeship and personal accumulation of knowledge and skills, along with the unpredictable, were highly likely, as the journey had to be made by any means necessary. Thus, gradually, humans created the raft, the boat, and the ship,” writes Kostas Antypas in his book “Wet Roads.” He will discuss ships and routes during the Homeric era, from 1,000 to 500 B.C., which he describes and analyzes in detail in his book published by “24 Letters.”

The educator from Cephalonia and Piraeus completed this book after 14 years of research, study, and writing. The idea began during his student years when he discussed with a sailor in Cephalonia about Odysseus’s journey from Ithaca to Pylos, pondering whether it was fantasy, fiction, or something feasible. This sparked the research that led to the book. Kostas Antypas is preparing a new book on the history of warships during the period of 1,200-500 B.C.

Produced and presented by Antonis Karagiannakis
