Liana Sakelliou is the Poet of the Week on Voice of Greece

Each day, a different Greek poem reaches Greek-speaking audiences around the world.

For the week of October 14 to October 20, 2024, the program “Poet of the Week” on Voice of Greece will dedicate its broadcasts to the poet Liana Sakelliou.

Liana Sakelliou was born in Athens and studied English Philology at the University of Athens. She pursued further studies in the UK, earning a diploma from the University of Edinburgh and a Master’s degree from the University of Essex, followed by a PhD from Pennsylvania State University. She has published 28 books, including extensive studies, monographs, poetry, short stories, critical essays, articles, and translations across Greece, France, Romania, Spain, and the USA.

Currently, she is a professor of creative writing and American literature at the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Athens. Her scholarly and literary contributions have earned her two Fulbright scholarships, and her poetry has been translated into twelve languages and featured in international journals and anthologies.

Liana Sakelliou has also translated over fifty American poets into Greek and actively contributes to poetry translation discussions. She has received invitations to participate in international poetry festivals and has served as a poet-in-residence at various universities abroad.
