On Sunday, December 1, from 12:00 to 14:00 (with a repeat airing on Monday, December 2, from 04:00 to 06:00), the program “Our Town” will feature Thanasis Gaifyllias.
The unique and charismatic singer-songwriter will share stories about his early years in Greek music, his love for great poets (Katsaros, Elytis, Ritsos, Hikmet, Varnalis, Karyotakis, Souris, among others), and his journey of setting their works to music. He will recount his first performances at the historic bouat (music clubs) in Plaka and his fascinating encounter with Manos Eleftheriou.
Thanasis Gaifyllias will also discuss his many cultural activities in Komotini, the city where he resides, where he remains deeply engaged with music and cultural production.
The show will highlight his renowned record-and-book store, “To Kyttaro” (The Cell), which also served as his personal label for many years. Gaifyllias will bring to life the vibrant cultural scene of his city, the coexistence of diverse cultures and religions, and his role in founding the Friends of the Ancient Theater of Maroneia Association, where he worked tirelessly for the restoration and preservation of the ancient theater.
The program will also feature comments by Loudovikos ton Anogeion, and beautiful songs from Gaifyllias’s collaborations throughout his career will be played.
