The Greek Ambassador to Slovenia, Mr. Argyris Makris, spoke on “Fair Winds and Following Seas” about the philatelic exhibition titled Navigation, which is being held at the Mitteleuropa Postal and Telegraphic Museum in Ljubljana until the end of February.
“The exhibition is organized by the Maritime Museum of Crete, under the presidency of Emmanouil Petrakis, in collaboration with the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Italy, directed by Aliki Kefalogianni. It is part of the philatelic collection of the Maritime Museum of Crete, which has been expanding in recent years. The wealth of historical information conveyed through the stamp series is remarkable, as we encounter great explorers and seafarers throughout the centuries, such as Christopher Columbus, James Cook, Ferdinand Magellan, Vasco da Gama, and others,” stated Mr. Makris.
The Greek Ambassador also spoke about the Greek community in Ljubljana, the active presence of Greeks in Trieste, the connection between Slovenians and the Argonauts, and what the sea means to him and to Greece.
