Captain Nikolas – Haris Oikonomou, a descendant of a seafaring family dating back to 1900, hails from Spetses and grew up surrounded by the sea and traditional fishing boats. By the age of 13, he already knew he wanted to pursue a career as a sailor. He attended the Naval High School of Piraeus and later studied at the Merchant Marine Academy of Aspropyrgos, embarking on his first voyage from Istanbul on March 2, 2005.
Captain Nikolas advises young people aspiring to become sailors to “be cautious, study hard, stay informed about developments in shipping and technology, listen to experienced seafarers, and, most importantly, love the sea and the profession—otherwise, they won’t have a successful journey.”
