Captain Nikolas – Haris Oikonomou, a descendant of a seafaring family dating back to 1900, with roots from Spetses, speaks for the second consecutive day on “Fair Winds and Following Seas”, describing the skills and virtues of Greek sailors. He emphasizes that “our sailors stand out for their seafaring ability, their love for the sea, and the ship, which they view as their second home. They are also known for their sense of honor, and many other qualities. However, the lower-level crews primarily end up in ferry services and vessels for maritime tourism.”
He also mentions the women who have entered the field of shipping and continue to pursue this profession from various positions.
At the same time, Captain Nikolas explains “Nick the Sailor Man,” a series of videos on his YouTube channel that he creates by himself in a very inventive way aboard the ship during his travels. In these videos, he explains in simple terms various topics, such as safety regulations, cleanliness, manuals, navigation instruments, and much more.
