On Thursday, May 1st, from 21:00 to 23:00, the radio program “Our Town” offers a special tribute to May Day, through a rich and evocative musical journey with the Alcedo Folk Band.
With melodies as vivid and delicate as the wings of a halcyon, these gifted musicians will guide us through a tapestry of sounds—from Tsitsanis to Bach, with sounds from Thrace, Ireland, Israel, the Balkans, where the Ottoman longa meets the cantatas of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance—and at times, composing stories set against the backdrop of Greek mythology.
An episode in the hues of May—celebrating the season’s blooming and the hymn to life, while also honoring May Day’s deeper meaning: a day of remembrance, resistance, and the enduring struggle for workers’ rights and the dignity of all peoples.
