On Monday, 7 July, at 15:00 Athens time, the program “The Elves of Tradition” on Voice of Greece presents a tribute to the late Epirus-born clarinet virtuoso, Petroloukas Chalkias.
Joining us live in the studio of Hellenic Radio is singer Savas Siatras, who speaks about the work and legacy of this leading figure in Greek folk music.
Also with us is clarinetist Petros Chalkias, grandson and student of the late maestro, who shares memories and reflections on his grandfather’s life and artistic journey.
We’ll listen to recordings from the 1980s, originally made at Hellenic Radio, capturing the collaboration between Petroloukas Chalkias and “the nightingale of Epirus,” Savas Siatras. These archival recordings have been digitized especially for this broadcast, with the support of the ERT Archive Museum.
