On Friday, 05 June 2026, at 15:00 Athens time, “The Elves of Tradition” invites listeners of Voice of Greece on a musical journey to northern Thessaly and the Hasia region through a special concert recorded at Hellenic Radio’s Studio B.
Featuring a talented ensemble of young virtuoso musicians, the program showcases the distinctive folk music tradition of Hasia, a region with a rich musical heritage and a unique cultural identity. While the clarinet came to dominate much of mainland Greece’s folk music, Hasia has preserved a tradition in which the violin remains the leading instrument of the local folk ensemble.
Performing in the concert are:
Dimitris Chatzis – vocals
Christos Poulios – violin
Giorgos Theodoridis – laouto
Giorgos Prapas – tambourine
Joining the musicians is social anthropologist Ioannis Kais, who explores the characteristic soundscape of the region and discusses the distinctive features of Hasia’s musical tradition. We also thank him for his invaluable contribution to the coordination of the ensemble.
