1975–2025: A Tribute to 50 Years of the Greek Constitution – Part I | 30 Aug. 2025, 17:00

“The program ‘Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for All Ages’ presents a historical and educational tribute to the 50th anniversary of the adoption and implementation of the Greek Constitution in two special anniversary episodes.

In the first part, on Saturday 30 August 2025, from 17:00 to 18:00 Athens time on Voice of Greece, the program narrates excerpts from the book published by Kedros, “The Greek Constitutions and Their History” by author Yolanda Chatzi.

In this book we learn what it meant to be a citizen in the turbulent years after the Revolution, in the era of King Otto or Trikoupis, during the time of Eleftherios Venizelos and the Balkan Wars, during the Occupation and the Civil War, in the years of the Military Dictatorship and the restoration of democracy. Greece gained a monarchical Constitution in 1844, a liberal regime with the Constitution of 1864, and a parliamentary system during the era of Charilaos Trikoupis. If a nostalgic of the past tells you children about the ‘good old days’ and how much better things supposedly were back then, you will be able to discuss with him and list the struggles fought for more democratic governance in Greece, as well as the constitutional achievements won by its citizens. From what you will hear and read, you will become more active citizens. And when you reach the age when you can vote, you will know what you are voting for, why you are voting, and what you expect from the results of elections.

With respect,
the author, Yolanda Chatzi

Produced and presented by Maria Karagiannaki Iona
Broadcast: Saturday, 30.08.2025, 17:00–18:00 Athens time
