New Year on Voice of Greece

Voice of Greece welcomes the New Year with carols, wishes from our seafarers at sea,, beloved fairy tales, and distinguished guests—forming a rich festive program in the company of Greeks around the world.

On Wednesday, 31 December 2025, at 22:00 (Athens time), Sassa Voulgari, a psycho-pedagogue and professional storyteller, will be a guest on Remarkable Personalities with Stavroula Karali. On a night of transition and anticipation, just before the arrival of the New Year, she will unravel the red thread of storytelling, guiding listeners back to childhood realms filled with fairies, dragons, and mischievous spirits. She will speak about the tireless Scheherazade and One Thousand and One Nights, the solitary Ebenezer Scrooge, and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl, and will also share one of her own favorite tales.

On New Year’s Day, at 08:00 (Athens time), the program “Fair Winds and Following Seas” with Antonis Karagiannakis will take Voice of Greece listeners thousands of miles away, in the company of Greek seafarers who describe the “loneliness” of the holidays aboard ships, far from home, as they sail the seas of the world. They will also send their wishes and recall unforgettable Christmases at sea, in a festive broadcast featuring people from the maritime world of all ages, for whom this season holds a special meaning.

Additionally, on Saturday, 03 January 2026, at 12:00 (Athens time), “Our Town” with Themis Rodamitis will air a special festive episode titled “As If It Were a Dream of a Festive Day,” featuring songs and texts in a dreamlike and optimistic atmosphere.

Later that day, at 13:00 (Athens time), the final episode of “Historical Walks”‘ tribute will be broadcast, focusing on Christmas as a celebration of peace in a world tested by wars, conflicts, and deep divisions. The guest of Marilena Katsimi will be Grigorios Papathomas, Metropolitan of Peristeri. At the heart of the discussion will be the role of the Church in the contemporary world, the significance of the recent meeting between Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Pope Leo XIV, as well as the historical course of relations between Orthodoxy and Catholicism from the Great Schism to the present day. At the same time, the expectations and limitations of modern inter-Christian dialogue will be examined.
