“My Grandfather and Mr. Alzheimer” | 03 Jan. 2026, 17:00

What is really happening in the mind of little Gerasimos’ beloved grandfather when he forgets and can no longer recognize his family—even his small and dearly loved grandson? What are these “nerve cells” that carry information to and from the “brain”? A wonderful and deeply moving letter that young Gerasimos decides to write to his beloved grandfather will give him all the answers about this strange and dreadful “illness” that troubles his grandfather’s mind.

The program “Narratives – Stories and Fairy Tales for All Ages” presents, on Saturday 03 January 2026, from 17:00 to 18:00 (Athens time), on Voice of Greece, the narration of the second book of Epi Michi–Zengou’s trilogy, entitled “My Grandfather and Mr. Alzheimer,” published by Paralos Editions.

The book’s outstanding illustration—offering a particularly clear and accessible visual approach that helps young readers better understand the progression of the disease—is signed by illustrator and creator Theodosia Kotsika.

Through the eyes of a young child trying to understand everything related to his beloved grandfather’s Alzheimer’s disease, author Epi Michi–Zengou gives us a beautiful story that offers a different yet deeply meaningful approach to the illness, aiming to inform and raise awareness among both children and adults. At the end of the book, young readers will find valuable Q&A from the little hero about what Alzheimer’s disease is, matching games related to key concepts of the illness, drawings, word searches, as well as a booklet inviting them to write their own letter to their grandfather or grandmother.
The book’s foreword is written by Dr. Magda Tsolaki, Neurologist–Psychiatrist & Theologian, Professor of Neurology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and President of the Hellenic Federation of Alzheimer’s Disease.

“…and don’t forget, children: love them! Even when they can’t recognize you! A hug is the most beautiful gift—it helps them feel good!”
(Dr. Aloysius “Alois” Alzheimer, 1864–1915)
