Remarkable Personalities: Lena Divani | 04 Mar. 2026

On Wednesday, 4 March 2026, the Voice of Greece program “Remarkable Personalities” with Stavroula Karali welcomed Lena Divani in a broadcast of historical remembrance that approaches Ioannis Kapodistrias both as a leader and as a man.

The distinguished historian and author of The Bitter Cup: Kapodistrias, Roxandra and Greece traced the life of the first Governor of Greece — from his youth in Corfu and his studies in Italy to his diplomatic career in Russia.

She also focused on the relationship between the first Governor of the Greek state and Roxandra Sturdza, the woman who profoundly marked his personal life — a spiritual and meaningful bond, ultimately unfulfilled.

Particular emphasis was placed on Kapodistrias’ return to Greece amid a climate of intense political rivalry. Lena Divani also reflected on the assassination of the first Governor of the newly established state in Nafplio — an event that signified not only the end of a life, but also the violent interruption of a vision.
