Beatrice Saias-Magrizou on “Remarkable Personalities” | 03 June 2026

The program “Remarkable Personalities” with Stavroula Karali welcomes Beatrice Saias-Magrizou, author of the book The Fire Bracelet, for a deeply human conversation about memory, loss, and the duty to preserve historical truth.

At the heart of the discussion is the true story of the Jewish Saias family and their journey through some of the darkest moments of the 20th century — from the Great Fire of Thessaloniki in 1917 to Nazi brutality, persecution, and the Holocaust.

Beatrice Saias-Magrizou offers a profoundly personal testimony, recounting the horrific experiences of her father in the Nazi camps at Auschwitz concentration camp. At just sixteen years old, Joseph Saia was deported to the camp, where he endured inhumane torture and medical procedures performed without anesthesia, experiencing unimaginable suffering.

The Saias family chose to speak out rather than remain silent — to keep alive the memory of those who were lost, so that the Holocaust would never become a forgotten page of history. The family bracelet, a precious heirloom passed down from generation to generation, became the symbol of that memory: a silent witness to survival, love, and continuity.
