Voice of Greece modifies its program to pay tribute to journalist, poet and painter Spyros Katsimis, who passed away on Sunday, 01 March 2026. From Monday, 09 March through Sunday, 15 March, recordings of his poems—read by the poet himself in the Voice of Greece studio in January 2019—will be rebroadcast.
These are the two-minute poetry segments titled “The Poet of the Week.” The week from 09 March 2026 to 15 March 2026 is dedicated to the poet Spyros Katsimis.
Spyros Katsimis was born in Corfu in 1933. After graduating from the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, he began writing and later turned to the press. He collaborated with the magazine “Gynaika” from the early 1970s until 1980, worked as a freelance writer and book critic for the newspapers “Athinaiki” in 1974 and “Kathimerini” from 1975 to 1981, and later contributed to the newspapers “Ethnos” and “Eidiseis” from 1984, as well as to the magazine “Tachydromos.”
In the early 1980s he began his long career at Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), first as a radio news editor and later as editor-in-chief of the television program “Kyriakatika” (1985–1987). From 1987 to 1990 he served as editor-in-chief of the cultural television program “Art and Culture.”
Alongside his journalistic work, he developed a rich literary career from a very early age. His works include “Short Stories” (1954), “Narcissus” (1955), “Smile” (1959), “Exit” (1964), “The Orators” (1974), “Selection” (1979), “The Madman” (1983), “The Roof” (1993), and “The Season of Lightning” (1996), among others. Some of his works have been translated into English, French, German and Polish.
