Before and after 1922: A grandmother’s memories of the Asia Minor Catastrophe (Part One) | 26 Sept. 2026

The Voice of Greece program “Narratives: Stories and Fairytales for All Ages” marks the memory of the Asia Minor Catastrophe with the first of two readings from «Τζιέρι μου 1922» by author and award-winning illustrator Fotini Stefanidi, published by Kaleidoskopio.

The first part follows the grandmother’s life before 1922 and through the destruction. A grandmother’s memories unfold like photographs scattered across a lifetime. They show the world she knew before 1922, the destruction that followed, and the uncertain beginnings of a new life in Greece. The grandmother recalls the order to leave Triglia, the brothers scattered by war and migration, and the fire that consumed homes and livelihoods. Stefanidi accompanies these personal memories with notes and historical documents that place the people, places, and events in context.
