Narratives: The Greek War of Independence in Greek Poetry | 21 Mar. 2026

The program “Narratives” – “Stories and Fairy Tales for Children and Grown-Ups” marks two significant anniversaries this March. The occasion is the celebration of World Poetry Day on 21 March, observed worldwide, alongside the commemoration of the historic anniversary of Greek Independence Day (25 March 1821), presenting two remarkable publications by Kedros Editions.

In the first publication, titled “1821 in Greek Poetry”, the program presents selected poems on the theme of the Greek War of Independence, from an edition curated by ERT journalist and prose writer Ilias Gris. This unique anthology brings together 140 poems by 109 Greek poets, written over a span of 190 years, all inspired by the Revolution of 1821.
Leading figures include Dionysios Solomos and Andreas Kalvos, alongside Angelos SikelianosGiorgos SeferisKostis PalamasAlexandros PallisAlexandra PlakotariNikiphoros VrettakosLorentzos MavilisKostas VarnalisAristotelis ValaoritisSofia Mavroeidi-PapadakiIlias Gris, and others. The result is a compelling poetic journey extending into the early 21st century, reflecting on the historical Greek Revolution of 1821.

In the presentation of the second Kedros edition, the program narrates the fairy tale “The Little Greeks” by Eugenia Fakinou, part of a beautiful collective volume inspired by the unique beauty and historical value of Greek folk art — embroidery, stone carvings, and woven textiles.
