Filmmaker Dimitris Indares about his film ‘Lenaki, the Curse of Fire’ | 22 Mar. 2025, 13:00

On the occasion of World Poetry Day and the Greek Independence Day anniversary of March 25th, the show “Historical Walks” takes a journey back to the pre-revolutionary years, following the thread of our folk poetry.

Through a folk song that appears in various versions across Greece, we learn about a turbulent love affair between Eleni and Elmaz—a Christian woman and a Muslim man—who eloped in the early 19th century.

Filmmaker Dimitris Indares, through his documentary film Lenaki, the Curse of Fire, unveils the lost traces of this passionate love story that has stood the test of time.

After years of research, Dimitris Indares confronts us with history, tradition, myth, curse, intergenerational traumas, and the power of forgiveness. He transforms his personal exploration into a shared experience that resonates with all of us.

Produced and hosted by Marilena Katsimi, journalist

Broadcast: Saturday, March 22, 2025, 13:00-14:00 Athens time
