Iossif Ventura is VoG’s Poet of the Week | 18-24 Mar. 2024


Each weekly episode is a tribute to a contemporary poet from Greece or the Greek Diaspora.

The poets recite their poems themselves, along with an original live music background.

The Poet of the Week 18-24 March 2024 is Iossif Ventura.

Iossif Ventura is a poet. He is president of the Hellenic Authors’ Society (2023 – 2025). He publishes the online poetry magazine: www.poeticanet.gr. He is a representative of the Poetry Festival: “VOIX VIVES de Méditerranée en Méditerranée”. He has published seven collections of poetry, the anthology Jewish Poetry in the Middle Ages and the bilingual translation (Hebrew-Greek) of The Song of Songs with extensive commentary. The book “IBBUR” / The Jews of Crete 1900-1950 presents narratives and testimonies about the life and fate of the Jews of Crete, as well as rare photographs and never-before-seen documents. His books of poetry are published in the USA, Romania and Israel, while his poems have been translated and published in many languages. TANAIS’ elegy set to music by Marielli Sfakianakis has been broadcast by ERT 3. He has participated in poetry conferences and festivals in Greece and abroad. He has lectured on poetry at the Democritus University of Komotini, the National Academy of Sciences, Harvard University, Columbia University and San Francisco State University. He has spoken at high schools in Athens, Piraeus, Patras, Chania and Heraklion.
