Olga Chomenidou is the “Poet of the Week” | 05 -11 May 2025

Each week, seven poems—one Greek poem a day—travel across the airwaves of Voice of Greece, reaching Greek communities across the world.

Voice of Greece—ERT’s international radio service dedicated to Greek speakers around the world and to the promotion of the Greek language and culture—continues its beloved poetry segments “Poet of the Week.”

Each week spotlights a contemporary Greek poet, including voices from the Greek diaspora. The poets themselves curate and perform their own work for radio, with each piece set to music by acclaimed composers. Seven poems per week—one each day—journey across the globe through the frequencies of Voice of Greece.

Olga Chomenidou was born in June 1964 in Nea Ionia, Athens. She graduated from the Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Athens and pursued postgraduate studies in the Russian language at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow. For more than 20 years, she worked as a reporter and chief editor in the culture sections of major newspapers—including Exousia, To Vima, Eleftherotypia, and Proto Thema—as well as in radio (Planet) and online media, often writing about the state of television in Greece. She has attended workshops in theatrical education and acting at the theatre group Morphes Ekfrasis, as well as in playwriting at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation. In 2022, she published her first poetry collection titled “Pale Full Moons. Stories for Bare Heads.” She is a self-taught painter, and her paintings are featured in the daily TV series “Electra,” broadcast by ERT1. She is married and has one son.
