Voice of Greece, ERT’s international radio addressed to Greeks around the world, continues its series of podcasts— “Poet of the Week” — dedicated to the dissemination, support, and celebration of the Greek language and culture. Each week focuses on a contemporary Greek poet — including poets of the Diaspora — who personally select and recite their poems for radio broadcast. Each poem is accompanied by carefully chosen music, creating a bridge between verse and sound.
Seven poems per week — one poem each day — travel through the frequencies of Voice of Greece, reaching every corner of the world where Greek voices are heard.
The week 24-30 November 2025 is dedicated to poet Maria Gerogianni.
Maria Gerogianni was born in Rethymno. She studied Economics at the University of Thessaloniki and worked at the Bank of Greece. She has published the poetry collections «Άδειοι Στίχοι» (Empty Verses) – Gavriilidis Publications, «Φωνή Φωνηέντων» (Vowel Voice) – Melani Publications, «Οι κούκλες σου δεν είχαν ψυχή» (Your Dolls Had No Soul) – Perispomeni Editions, and «Ερωτεύτηκε τον Καρυωτάκη γιατί ερωτεύτηκε την Πολυδούρη» (She Fell in Love with Karyotakis Because She Fell in Love with Polydouri) – Mandragoras Editions.
She has received honorary distinctions in literary competitions (Cultural Games – Municipality of Heraklion, 2006 – First Commendation in Literature [Poetry]; University of Western Macedonia, MA Program “Creative Writing,” 2014 – Honorary Distinction). Her poems and reviews of her work have been published in print and digital media.
