“Our Town” double tribute: Charlie Parker / Julio Cortazar | 17 June 2024, 19:00

On Monday, June 17th, the show “Our Town” will do a short tribute to Charlie Parker and Julio Cortázar.

Charlie Parker was one of the most important African-American jazz musicians, making a strong mark as a musician and saxophonist. He was instrumental in shaping the bebop along with the great Dizzy Gillespie. Parker’s “star” moved the great Latin American writer Julio Cortázar, who wrote a book about him entitled “The Hunter”, from which excerpts will be heard.

In addition to feature essays on these two great artistic personalities, the show will also feature Parker’s music from his major collaborations. The important composer and saxophonist of the jazz scene Dimitris Tsakas will speak on the show.

The second part of the tribute to Charlie Parker and Julio Cortázar will be broadcast on “Our Town” on Monday, June 24th, 19:00-20:00 Athens time. The distinguished composer and double bassist Petros Klampanis will speak in this program.
