Portugal – Greece: So close… So far… | 22 Feb. 2025, 13:00

In 2024, Greece and Portugal marked 50 years since the restoration of democracy, while Italy commemorated 80 years since the fall of fascism. On the occasion of these anniversaries, events and initiatives were organized both nationally and internationally to emphasize that democracy is not a given and that the threat of authoritarian regimes still looms.

By understanding the past, we can grasp the present and shape the future—this is the motto of our program. In this episode, we will explore how a Historical Walks project between Portugal and Greece has helped us trace the footprints of history, revealing both the differences and the shared experiences of the two nations.

We will discuss the Visible Past project and the experiential approach to history with researchers Elpida Margariti and Dimitris Totsos, political scientist Viriato Vilas-Boas, and João Paulo Avelãs Nunes, professor of history and researcher at the Interdisciplinary Studies Center of the University of Coimbra.

Produced and presented by Marilena Katsimi, journalist
