“The History of Greek Hip-Hop” | 28 June 2025, 13:00

On Saturday 28 June 2025, “Historical Walks” with Marilena Katsimi is dedicated to Greek hip-hop—the cultural movement that resonates deeply with a large part of Greece’s youth.

Prompted by two sold-out concerts by LEX, music producer for the Second Programme and author Michalis Gelastakis guides us through the world of rap, explaining why it speaks so powerfully to younger generations. He reflects on the “LEX phenomenon”—the most popular Greek rapper—who brought rap into the mainstream, as well as on other lesser-known artists whose raw, honest lyrics give voice to feelings many young people struggle to express.

Gelastakis also clarifies the difference between rap and trap, and argues that rap is today’s new political song—the soundtrack of a generation.

Produced and presented by Marilena Katsimi
Broadcast: Saturday, 28 June 2025, 13:00–14:00 (Athens time)
