The Greeks of Egypt | 15 Mar. 2025, 13:00

The Egyptian Greeks are perhaps the most well-known Greek community in the world. What is the historical origin of the settlement of Greeks in this country? What were the motivations behind this human mobility of Greeks towards Egypt?

What was the identity – economic, political, and cultural – of these people over the years, until the abolition of their privileges by Nasser’s regime? How and when did they leave? What does the trauma of leaving Egypt mean since then?

This Saturday, 15 March, the show “Historical Walks” with guest historian and author Alexandrer Kitroeff (of Egyptian descent), will search for answers to all our questions and, through descriptions and music, transport us mentally to one of the most atmospheric places in the world.

Produced and presented by Marilena Katsimi, journalist

Broadcast: Saturday, March 15, 2025, 13:00-14:00 Greece time
