“The Last Trace – Landmarks of History of Greeks and Philhellenes” | 25 Jan. 2025, 12:00

On Saturday, January 25, from 12:00 to 13:00 (Athens time), the program “Our Town” on Voice of Greece will present “The Last Trace: Historical Landmarks of of Greeks and Philhellenes” (¨”Το τελευταίο ίχνος, τοπόσημα ιστορίας Ελλήνων και Φιλελλήνων¨), The show is inspired by the release of the photo book with the same title, featuring exceptional photographs by photographer Maria Stefosi and insightful texts.

In the studio, Stefosi will discuss the monuments and landmarks of 57 figures from Pre-Revolutionary Greece and the modern Greek state, as well as National Benefactors who left a lasting impact on their time, memory, and the emotions of future generations. “The Last Trace” also highlights an important aspect of European heritage: cemeteries. The publication documents 14 cemeteries in Greece and abroad, as well as 25 other sites with funerary monuments.

The program will include special references to rare material on figures such as Adamantios Korais, Rigas Feraios, Lord Byron, Constantine Cavafy, Dionysios Solomos, Angelos Sikelianos, Eva Palmer, Nikos Kazantzakis, and Theodoros Vryzakis (with contributor Elias Nobilakis).

Maria Stefosi will explain how these individuals excelled, dedicating their lives to the service of freedom, the nation, and human dignity. Joining her in the studio is historian and art critic Klea Sougioultzoglou, who has written the foreword for the publication.

Actor Themis Rodamitis will read a short excerpt by Odysseas Elytis from the text included in the album titled “The Magic of Papadiamantis.”

This unique program will explore moments of heroism and contribution through Maria Stefosi’s lens and the inspiring texts of the publication.
